Marius Dragomir and Astrid Söderström Discuss State of State Media Study in Robert Nemeth’s New Podcast

April 14, 2022

Countries without good public service media usually have a very politicized public sphere, a high level of polarization; you lose much of the role that journalism should play in a democracy, our Director Marius Dragomir told Democracy Institute’s Robert Nemeth in a new podcast.

The podcast was made for the Review of Democracy, with Dragomir and our intern Astrid Söderström, who participated in the data analysis and the drafting of The State of State Media report. The conversation covers issues such as the concept of media capture. It also offers a detailed discussion of the report, its state media matrix, the seven state media models identified in the report, and tackles questions whether you need public service media at all. Astrid Söderström also talks about public service media in her native Finland.
