Kate Coyer Joins the Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society at Harvard University as Fellow

Kate Coyer, Director of CMDS' Civil Society and Technology project has joined the Berkman Klein Center For Internet and Society at Harvard University as fellow for the 2016/17 academic year. Kate Coyer will research the role of Internet companies in responding to violent extremism online and the impacts on privacy and freedom of expression, and continue her work supporting access to communication for refugees. You can read more about Kate Coyer's fellowship here.

Dean Starkman Writes About Media Consolidation for Traffic magazine

Resident CMDS fellow and visiting faculty at the School of Public Policy, Dean Starkman has authored a piece on the current state of  media consolidation entitled "The Ever-Expanding Media Giants" for Traffic magazine. Examining all media acquisitions over the past decade and the state of the media industry, Starkman writes that "media makes more money today than at any time in human history — $2.4 trillion worldwide, if you count platform companies such as AT&T as well as content companies like the Walt Disney Co.

Call for Participation in the AudioFiles Podcasting Workshop

The Center for Media, Data and Society (CMDS) in cooperation with the Mirabaud Media Lab at CEU is organizing a five session workshop on podcasting for the CEU community. The aim of the workshop is to introduce participants to the basics of podcasting: how to create and produce audio content that will help promote their work and open new paths to cooperation with their peers. Students, faculty and staff are welcome to apply.
