Silvia Chocarro, Sejal Parmar at UNESCO World Press Freedom Day Conference
Two CMDS Fellows, Silvia Chocarro and Sejal Parmar participated in the 2022 UNESCO World Press Freedom Day Conference, held in Punta Del Este, Uruguay and online.
Together with their co-authors Jackie Harrison, Tarlach McGonagle and Sara Torsner, our Fellows Silvia Chocarro and Sejal Parmar presented research on how UN Human Rights Council Resolutions have addressed the issue of journalistic safety in the past 10 years. This was part of the academic conference of the event.
Silvia Chocarro, who is ARTICLE 19's Head of Protection, also participated in a discussion entitled Equally Safe: Towards a Feminist Approach to the Safety of Journalists. The organization ARTICLE 19 launched a new project under this name to address the challenges women journalists face. This project “offers new research, case studies from 6 countries, practical guidelines, and advocacy tools. These will help civil society, journalists, researchers, and policy makers to apply an intersectional feminist approach in their work,” ARTICLE 19 says.
