Several CMDS Affiliates to Participate in the International Journalism Festival

Our Director Marius Dragomir, Advisory Board member Anya Schiffrin, Curriculum Development Lead Sheila Coronel, and Fellows Benedetta Brevini, Stefania Milan and Courtney Radsch will participate in panel discussions at the International Journalism Festival 2022 in Perugia, Italy.

The festival takes place on 6-10 April, in person with an online streaming service.

On Thursday, our Fellow Stefania Milan will take a theoretical look at whistleblowing.

On Friday, CMDS Director Marius Dragomir will participate in a discussion on what western European journalists can learn from their eastern European colleagues who work in a hostile media environment.

In two sessions on Friday and Saturday, our Advisory Board member Anya Schiffrin will talk about media viability efforts and policies in the age of the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Friday, our Curriculum Development Lead Sheila Coronel will participate in a panel on the future of AI accountability reporting.

On Saturday, our Fellow Courtney Radsch will take part in a discussion on Big Tech vs. journalism.

In an Italian-language session on Saturday, our Fellow Benedetta Brevini will talk about our digital present and future.

Other participants from CMDS’ orbit include Flutura Kusari, who developed and present lessons on legal challenges in our Cross-Border Investigative Journalism course. She will participate in a discussion of SLAPPs on Friday.

Freelance journalist Jelena Prtorić, who wrote several articles for our Journalism Breakthroughs project, will on Saturday take part in a panel that discusses different ways of reporting on climate change.

Damian Tambini from LSE, who has contributed to our Uncovering Media Influence in the UK project, will participate in two discussions. The first one on Friday will focus on how to regulate Big Tech for democracy. The second one on Saturday will discuss on what the role of the EU is in protecting free media.
