Marius Dragomir on the Latest Developments in Iran’s Media
A major reform of Iran’s media is underway, but the strategy is a mess, CMDS Director Marius Dragomir writes in a new piece for MediaPowerMonitor.
In an article discussing the latest developments in Iran’s media, Marius Dragomir writes about the Iranian government’s efforts to revamp Iran’s state media, trying to make it comparable to Russian and Chinese state media outlets.
Yet the measures are contradictory. On the one hand, most of the foreign bureaus of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) are being closed; on the other hand, IRIB’s budget has massively increased.
The article concludes that the reforms are expected to further strengthen the control of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Iran’s powerful intelligence agency, over the country’s media.
