CMDS Team Members Involved in UNESCO’s Global Report on Freedom of Expression

February 14, 2019

Across the world, journalism is under fire, writes the report World Trends in Freedom of Expression and Media Development by UNESCO. According to the report, while more individuals have access to content than ever before, the combination of political polarization and technological change have facilitated the rapid spread of hate speech, misogyny and unverified fake news, often leading to disproportionate restrictions on freedom of expression.

The report has a chapter on Central and Eastern Europe that documents the circumstances and trends relating to media freedom, pluralism, independence, and the safety of journalists in the region.

Monroe Price, founder and Advisory Board member of CMDS is a lead editor and researcher of the report, while Krisztina Rozgonyi, member of CMDS’s Media Policy Hub is one of the regional and thematic researchers. CMDS Director Marius Dragomir and CMDS Fellow Silvia Chocarro Marcesse are members of the Advisory Group of the report.
