Two government-linked stations get bulk of public ad money

November 5, 2012

Two Fidesz-linked radio companies receive the bulk of the government money spent for advertising on the radio, according to Kreativ magazine. In 2012, Class FM,  which is majority owned by Fidesz businessman Zsolt Nyerges, has so far received 66 percent of the public advertisement contracts in Hungary’s radio market. Music FM, also said to be influenced by Nyerges, received a reported HUF 271.7 million in state advertising, the second-highest amount received from state advertisements. In 2011, although radio advertisements shrank to 4.9 percent of the overall advertising market, the radio market comprised 11.7 percent of the state advertising spending, according to Kreativ. This trend is apparently continuing in 2012.
