Judit Barta

Judit Barta (CEU alumna) is a freelancer journalist and translator, currently in her final year at the doctoral school of Philosophy at ELTE University Budapest. Her research focus is on the practice and ideology of news curation, regarded as a core element of technology-enhanced journalism. Presently she is involved in a comparative research project on Journalistic Role Performance Around the Globe, to which the subject of her PhD thesis is closely related, as she is interested in the transformation of journalistic work within the new media ecosystem, and how it plays out with issues of media freedom. She is also teaching First Year Seminar, College Writing and Oral Communication courses at McDaniel College Budapest. She published articles in Médiakutató, a Hungarian media scholarly journal on citizen journalism embraced by mainstream media and on the media representation of the extreme right. At CMDS she will be working on the cooperation and synergies of social media actors and mainstream journalists reporting on the Hungarian tobacco shop licensing scandal.
