Information Privacy Workshop
Facebook is a social network site which in the first 9 months in 2010 had revenues of $1.2bn. This January, Goldman Sachs invested into Facebook laying down a company valuation of approximately $50 bn, this makes approximately $100 per member or better per profile or even more better per individual data account. Your personal data is that valuable.
This workshop will explore the various facets of information privacy and the surrounding policies of electronic data processing involving personal information. Enhanced computing technology and storage capacity are facilitating an ever increasing appetite for personal information on behalf of businesses and authorities, which ultimately impacts the fundamental right to privacy. Notwithstanding the alarming number of high profile incidents, in which personal data had been compromised, the public awareness seems to be weakening. Besides, legislators are readjusting the equilibrium between national security and electronic privacy. We will reflect on the latest development and the shift of mentality towards more privacy pervasive technologies.
