On October 8, the biggest Hungarian daily, Népszabadság was suddenly shut down after nearly 60 years of operation. A few weeks earlier Tom Popper, the editor in chief of the Budapest Business Journal resigned from his position referring to the bullying tactics of the Hungarian government when explaining his decision to leave the paper. These are two recent events in a series of disturbing news about the Hungarian media. With our distinguished guests we will discuss these current events in the broader context of the state of media freedom and journalism in Hungary.

Our invited guests are Márton Gergely, deputy editor in chief of Népszabadság and Tom Popper, former editor in chief of Budapest Business Journal. The discussion will be moderated by Éva Bognár, Senior Program Officer of CMDS.
