Pre- and Post-Doctoral Opportunities at CMDS for Fall 2015 / Winter 2016

The Center for Media, Data and Society (CMDS) at the School of Public Policy of Central European University is pleased to announce the availability of research appointments for the fall 2015 or winter 2016. These are pre- and post-doctoral appointments with the expectation of residence in Budapest for 1-3 months, depending on the project. Ideal applications are working on doctoral projects, or have recently defended their doctoral work, and the stipend will be commensurate with experience.

Digital Activism and Hungarian Media Reform: The Case of Milla – Article Published by EJC

CMDS Acting Executive Director Eva Bognar, CMDS Fellow Lina Dencik and Peter Wilkin from the Brunel University, London have co-authored “Digital activism and Hungarian media reform: The case of Milla”. The article was published by the European Journal of Communication and it examines the rise of the Internet-based opposition group, One Million for the Freedom of the Press in Hungary (or Milla for short), and considers its impact as a form of digital activism in Hungarian political culture.

Roxana Radu Publishes Article on Data Control and Digital Regulatory Spaces in the EU

CMDS Fellow Roxana Radu has recently published an article in Internet Policy Review, co-authored by Jean-Marie Chenou and entitled "Data control and digital regulatory space(s): towards a new European approach". The article examines the stance of the European Union vis-à-vis internet services company Google in two controversial instances: the ‘right to be forgotten’ and the implementation of EU competition rules.

Our summer course entitled „Advanced Topics in Internet Governance, Civil Society and Policy Advocacy” was held between 28 June-4 July, 2015 and it brought together 22 students from 18 countries to address the most pressing challenges, topics around internet governance, freedom of expression, digital rights and policy advocacy, and to learn from case studies, and practice security and advocacy design tools.
