Sejal Parmar Appointed to Global Network Initiative’s Academic Constituency

May 14, 2021

CMDS Fellow Sejal Parmar has been appointed an academic member of the Global Network Initiative (GNI).

A growing alliance of Internet and telecommunications companies, human rights and press freedom groups, investors, and academic institutions, GNI helps companies respect freedom of expression and privacy rights when faced with government pressure to hand over user data, remove content, or restrict communications.

“GNI has a valuable role in providing a multistakeholder process of international human rights law-based accountability under the framework of the GNI Principles and Implementation Guidelines. I look forward to working with other members to promote the respect of human rights, particularly freedom of expression and privacy, by technology companies,” Parmar said in the announcement.

“GNI will greatly benefit from Dr. Parmar’s expertise in international human rights law, particularly in the area of freedom of expression,” GNI Executive Director, Judith Lichtenberg said.
