Dragomir on the ‘Orbanization’ of Slovenian Media

July 20, 2020

The new media legislation proposed by the government in Slovenia is similar to the legislative steps taken by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban to gain control over the media and get rid of independent and critical reporting, CMDS’ Director Marius Dragomir said in an interview with Slovenian POP TV’s news program, 24ur.

“It is really important to look at this as the first step in the attempt to control independent journalism,” Dragomir said, adding that “the government, associated with oligarchs and companies close to the government, took over all the levers of power in the media, including regulation, funding and so on, and then they start buying private media.”
