Bognar Quoted in Brazilian Monthly Piauí

January 31, 2019

The newspaper published a report about Central European University with the title “Homeless School”. It describes the political situation in Hungary, also Lex CEU that forced the university to announce that it will launch all U.S.-accredited degree programs in Vienna in September 2019.

CEU was able to adapt to all the crazy conditions established by the new law” said Eva Bognar, Senior Program Officer and Researcher at CMDS to Piauí. The article describes the additional requirement created by Lex CEU: the need for an agreement between the governments of Hungary and New York State, where CEU’s partner Bard College is located. “Of course this final requirement could not be fulfilled by the university itself”, Bognar said to Piauí. "The Hungarian government created this impossibility: it prevented us from complying with the law by taking time to reach an agreement with the authorities of the United States themselves."

She added "It has been very stressful. I'm angry and sad. I feel terrible about what is happening to Hungary. I feel terrible, too, for having somehow become persona non grata in my own country."
