Dragomir Interviewed in Mexico's Public Radio Broadcaster

March 6, 2017

On 3 March 2017, Mexico’s public radio broadcaster, Instituto Mexicano de la Radio (IMER) aired a 30-minute interview with Marius Dragomir, Director of CMDS. Dragomir spoke about CMDS and its plans for the next three years to research systematically media and power.

“We are going to study and try to understand who actually holds the power in the media sphere, how that impacts independent journalism and society,” Dragomir said. He said that the Center has a strong position in the research world in Eastern Europe where it is based, but it also works with researchers from all parts of the world. The topic of power in the media is probably the most relevant in our times, especially in our times when people are bombarded by propaganda and fake news. Researchers in the media field should probably make the power dynamics the central part of their agenda, Dragomir told IMER. “A problematic issue is the great concentration with a few owners controlling a lot of the media,” he said. “It is a problem also in several countries [in Latin America].” The interview, available in Spanish, was conducted by Primavera Tellez Giron Garcia and Luis Miguel Carriedo Tellez in IMER’s studio in Mexico City in early February during Dragomir’s visit in Mexico.
