Call for Journalists to Participate in Defamation Survey

The Vienna-based International Press Institute (IPI) and the School of Public Policy's Center for Media and Communication Studies at Central European University in Budapest invite journalists from EU-member states and candidate countries to participate in an online survey about the effects of defamation, insult and blasphemy laws on journalism practices and press freedom.

The purpose of the survey is to determine the degree of awareness among journalists and media professionals about defamation, insult and blasphemy laws in relation to both national law and EU standards and principles, and the effects that these laws have on journalists’ work.

This research is being conducting jointly between IPI and the SPP's Center for Media and Communication Studies (CMCS), as part of a project co-financed by the European Commission’s European Centre for Press and Media Freedom.

We are asking journalists to complete the online survey, which will take approximately 15 minutes to complete, by 5 June, 2014.
