Call for Expression of Interest to the Sound Studies Reading & Listening Group

February 10, 2017

In recent years there has been an explosion of work on sound by researchers in the social sciences and humanities. Highly interdisciplinary and often undertaken in cooperation with those outside academia, from musicians to professionals, the field of sound studies is increasingly diverse, daring and exciting. Using sonic frames to think through themes such as technological mediation, the construction of ethnic difference, dwelling & place, urbanization & class, the gendering of spaces, changing religious practices and colonial legacies (to name but a few) scholars have developed pioneering approaches to longstanding questions.

With this in mind, we are happy to launch CEU’s first ‘Sound Studies Reading & Listening Group’ - an interdisciplinary and participant-led exploration into the cultural, social, political and material dimensions of sound and listening.

If you are interested in being part of the group, please fill in your details and any reading and listening suggestions you might have here: https://goo.gl/forms/Xvkp7V0KRfajIJI82

The reading & listening group is part of the project Sound Relations: Transgression, Disruptions, Transformations – a two-year long initiative funded by CEU’s Intellectual Themes Initiative (ITI) that reframes research, teaching and dissemination through the contours of sound.
